This Tom Tom Bluetooth hand free speaker / microphone / GPS unit works on older iphones with 30pins. As photo showing, it would work with iphone 4 just fine. (SORRY IPHONE IS NOT INCLUDED).
This unit is special because it uses true GPS chipset not the AGPS in the iphone. It does use AGPS to initial locating before GPS satellites are fully online and connected.  It will line up max 8 ~ 123 satellites at outdoor. Once its locked, unless you are driving into underground garage, otherwise signal should be locked fairly accurately.
This also works with any MAP apps. I've tried on google map, Tom Tom map app (I believed the company went bankrupt so the iphone software is no longer available. I still have my copy and it works). Also works for Navigon, Nokia HERE WeGo, Waze.
This is a perfect unit to drive across countries when your roaming isn't on and your phone can't lock the GPS signal on the foreign land. I've used this unit often at Canada before.  As long as you have downloaded regional maps before hand then it should work as expected.
